Unlike for Major League Baseball, or even the National Basketball Association, the NFL blacks out all of its preseason games even when on local networks.
Tonight I will not be able to be bringing you live coverage of the Ravens' final preseason game. This is purely because of the NFL's ignorance and it's blackout policy.
I have the premium package on DirecTV and often watch MASN (the Maryland-based station that is broadcasting the Ravens' game tonight). Even though I have the network, and NEITHER the Orioles or the Nationals are playing (the network's priorities), I have been blacked out for the game.
I just don't get it. The NFL has been stated as the "No Fun League" in so many different places recently and its purely because people compare them to other major sports leagues, which they should. If you are able to go to any network your TV company provides and are able to watch PRESEASON MLB and NBA games, why not the NFL?
Well, after getting off the phone with DirecTV, it has been stated to me that not only does this blackout have to do with the NFL, but my 'NFL Sunday Ticket' package won't even cover the preseason games.
I am well aware that this is a preseason game, but I guarantee that any die-hard fan of the NFL wants to see the developments of this weekend's games for their teams. Most people write off the 4th preseason game since 99% of the teams stars don't play. However, for several teams (especially the Ravens) trying to name winners in position battles, this game could be interesting to see who comes out on top.
As you can all tell, I am very unhappy with the NFL at the moment, and I will sure to be coming back with a feature article very soon.
