When the Eagles signed Vick yesterday, I was stunned. I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of them before. It really is perfect.
ESPN Analyst and former Eagle QB Ron Jaworski vocalized that Vick will ruin the fragile stability of the Eagles team. I harshly disagree.
Vick will actually take the pressure off of a lot of players by taking the spotlight, and as he said today, he is here to support and idolize Donovan McNabb. After all he has been through and the amount of scrutiny he will be under for the next several years, he will not even go near the rough waters of an ego battle.
All in all, he made a very good impression today and I think he said all the right things in all the right ways.
Welcome back to the NFL, Mr. Vick. Please don't F%@k this up for yourself.

ReplyDeleteYeah, but Donovan McNabb was about a game away from being run out of Philly last year, and despite his press conference, early reports have him as being "pissed."
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure where you see Vick makes a noticeable difference. You know and I know he certainly doesn't posses a Brees or Brady-esque QB skill-set; his forte is scrambling, and we all expect him to run the wildcat.
There are three problems.
First of all, Philadelphia had drafted LeSean McCoy out of Pittsburgh with three ideas in mind: He is Brian Westbrook's insurance, he is the back of the future and he will be taking snaps at wildcat. At this point, I would find it hard to believe that Vick is faster, more elusive or even a better passer (McCoy was under center for Pitt in '07), so I don't see him fitting here.
Philadelphia clearly had a dedication to Kevin Kolb, their second round selection in the 2007 draft, as their quarterback of the future. SInce then, Donovan McNabb has been in the upper echelon of quarterbacks in the NFL, so Kolb hasn't seen much time at QB, but at 25, Kolb is still young and has had years to develop under McNabb's wing and learn the offense. He would prove to be a better option to man the Eagles in the future.
Lastly, McNabb is a superstar. Year after year, he performs and those horrible fans want him out of town with a single bad game. Donovan is on a short leash (and his patience with Philly may be dwindling). Let's not be naive, if someone comes in that plays the same position you do and you play in a town where everyone boos you, you have reason to be concerned. There is no debate that McNabb is the superior quarterback (pre and post Vick's jail time), and I'm not too sure why fans and upper management alike are consistently trying to piss him off.
Verdict: Being that the Eagles were going to use the aforementioned McCoy, a younger M.Vick, this move does not improve them the slightest to me. It actually hurts them. Without increasing team skill, it butcher's the team chemistry by upsetting the man at the offense's controls (McNabb).
Did I forget to mention the protestors? Oh yeah... them too.
