Here are a few nuggets, just to name two:
- The DH – some people think that is dumb.
- PEDs – won’t even waste anymore ink on that.
What about the dumbest thing in baseball?
Here goes.
In each league there are two ways to make the playoffs:
- Win your division
- Be the wild card team
There are 30 teams in MLB:
- 20 of them have a 20% chance of winning their division just based on the number of teams.
- 4 of them have a 25% chance of winning their division, AL West
- 6 of them have a 16.7% chance of winning their division, NL Central
The American League West teams have a 50% better shot of making the playoffs than the National League Central teams do. WTF is that.
If I was an owner in the NL Central, I would be screaming bloody murder.
Move the Brewers to the AL West (the franchise is a nomad anyway), so you have 15 teams in each league and 5 in each division. Symmetry, sweet Symmetry.
We understand that means there will ALWAYS be some inter-league games going on, but so what? Isn’t that better than this craziness where if you are a Angels fan (or owner/player) you know you have a better shot at the playoffs than 26 other teams, just because there are only three other teams to beat in your division to make it?
While we are changing things up, how about we rotate through inter-league games evenly, and symmetrically, so each team sees all other teams over a number of years, just like the NFL does.
Boy are they dumb. Why the six NL Central teams don't protest is beyond me.
